Working from home is great. There is no commute, no weird workmates to pretend you like. I have worked at home for well over a decade and for me, the benefits revolved around my family.
There are some things I do miss about being in an office. Having people to chat with who get the work, the challenges, and the frustrations.
The one time I get out of my home is to network. Sometimes networking is more about connection - meeting others on the same journey. Other times the networking can be formal and a way of promoting my business.
If you would love to network but are scared to step out that front door, let me share how I have made it easy for you to dip your little toe in.
One aspect of my membership at Blooming Biz Academy is monthly networking sessions. These are held online via Zoom. I turn up and run the sessions. I start you all off with some simple questions that you can ask of each other (no more awkward introductions and long pauses). I then put you into breakout rooms (a cool feature in Zoom) with 2-3 other people. You then chat way for 10-15minutes , come back and we do it all again but with different people.
So over the past 18 months in the Academy, here is what I have seen happen in these networking sessions:

๐ธ Friendships formed as people opened up and shared.
๐ธ Business done - yes, it`s that easy - putting yourself out there will always help.
๐ธ Ideas generated together or simply through the act of talking and sharing.

๐ธ Feelings of more connection, less loneliness and isolation.

Coaching is something that I am deeply passionate about. I spend at least 2 days per week coaching my clients. We spend our time together in a variety of ways. In truth, every coaching session I run looks and feels different because I meet my clients where they are.
One of the negative consequences of being successful is that my 1:1 coaching is often out of reach for many people (my current hourly coaching rate is $440). This is something I wasn`t initially sure how to handle.
But poses a bit of a quandary if you can`t work with me 1:1.

Anzac Cove - Anzac Day - 2004
A very younger version of me pictured with my friend Matt (who we named our son after) One of my dreams was to spend Anzac Day at Gallipoli and I love that I was able to do it - we slept under the stars with our sleeping bags, watched the sun rise over Anzac Cove as we listened to the last post. The service was all day - it started at Anzac Cove and then we marched to Lone Pine for the NZ service and onto Chunuk Bair for the Turkish service. It was a special day that allowed us to imagine what it felt like to be in that strange place so far from home. I will always treasure this memory and hope one day my sons will make this same pilgrimage - LEST WE FORGET!

โค๏ธ He reminds me not to take things too seriously
โค๏ธ He is so much better at being cool and ensures I don`t send emails or posts I will regret
โค๏ธ He is a great sounding board where you can be honest - no filter
โค๏ธ You get to be "all of you" not just the work bit
โค๏ธ He is so supportive and tells me I am amazing all the time (not many bosses do that) and he does it in spontaneous moments like when I have just finished a client call - no need to wait for an annual review.
The Bad

I have to say I think we do pretty well. We absolutely have our moments but we do find a nice balance. We don`t generally work on projects together so we have a fair bit of freedom.
